Subject:- computer scam
This is a report from from Chris Poole outside the area but please be aware.
Occurrence:- Early this morning I received a telephone call from a Spanish lady speaking very good English saying that she was in Barcelona and that my computer was sending out a lot of malware which was affecting my internet server´s system. She wished me to put it right. I informed her that I was aware of her scam as it was being practised in both the U.K. and in Spain and the Police in both countries were aware of it. I then terminated the call. I did not ask for her telephone number and my Domo phone did not record the phone number.
Advice:- If you receive such a call, I advise that you do not enter into conversation but terminate the call.

Pueblo Bravo,  Bloques 21, 22, 2 3
Approximately 2wks ago a Bike was stolen from the back garden of Bloque 21.
Last night, 8th February, an item of clothing was stolen from the front garden of an apartment on Bloque 23 and this morning was found in the little Calle leading onto Avenida Del Mar.This just a warning that they are still out there and in our area, be vigilant. Do not leave anything out over night.

4 Feb 2012
Sat 4th Feb Rojales Hills 9 - member has grille alarms. He was woken by one going off at 1.12am He looked inside and outside the property but did not discover any person. The next morning underneath the window where the alarm went off his wife found a cigarette butt  It is the member's opinion that the burglars were testing the alarm for a reaction. Once they found people in the property they moved on. Please be aware that there are prowlers in the area and do not take any chances with your security. The burglars in this area are being very persistant.

13-19 Jan
There have been reports of 5 break-ins and 1 attempted break-in in the Paseo de Bo Astrom in Rojales. This area is up on the hill at the bottom of the golf course. One of the owners has reported that his alarm was deactivated from the outside as it did not go off. Both sirens were broken. Entry was gained by breaking through a window and electric shutters. TV and other items were taken. The intruders took the car key from the house and poured oil and ketchup on the car roof and paint on the seats inside. Police were informed. Perhaps we should consider leaving the car keys in the safe when we are away on holiday. Do not make it easy for these vandals.

Good News at last! The Almoradi police have two suspects for robberies & car break ins from the incidents reported  below, just before Christmas.
The men  are  Spanish and one Moroccan. The Police have recovered several tvs, car cd/radio players etc. from a garage. One cd player is from a car in Rio Tinto the other from Rio Ebro also tv is from Atalaya park so hopefully the men will be charged.

Sorry, this is late ....it has been reported  that on the Wednesday before Christmas seven holiday homes in The Park, Atalaya area, were broken into. The burglars ripped out window grilles, broke windows and appeared to have only taken 42” Plasma TVs. It seems that they ignored iPods, CD Players and in one case a laptop!!
The properties were alarmed. Given the method of entry etc and what was taken it could be the same group of villains that have been working in Atalaya and Benimar areas. Hopefully one day they will be caught.

24 December
Between 20.00 & 20.30 on Christmas Eve a house in C/Rio Tinto on Atalaya 15 Urb. was broken into and a flat screen TV stolen. This house has been broken into before and the owners car was one of those broken into the other night. they "popped out" to friends and forgot to activate the alarm or lock the basement door and left windows open. Police came very swiftly but the thief had gone. Please remember to lock up even if only visiting a neighbour

14 December

Sadly during the night four cars parked on three roads in the Atalayas were broken into and radios and a cassette player stolen. Three cars had their side windows shattered and one had the passenger door forced.

Those responsible for breaking into the cars may have used a pair of pliers taken from one of the cars broken into and use it as a tool to break into the other cars. The pliers were found near to one of the four cars broken into.

It is possible that the cars were broken into sometime after 01:00 hours as residents were out walking dogs at this time. Nobody heard nor saw anything, although the owner of one of the cars broken into thought he heard a noise sometime just after 01:00 hours.

I understand that the Local Police/Guarda Civil have been informed by the car owners.

While cars can be fitted with car alarms to deter vandals from breaking into a car the most obviously cost effective remedy is to, where possible, park cars in driveways behind locked gates. Whilst parking cars off the road is not the ultimate solution it is a reasonable deterrent.

A second report has come in about a further 3 cars vandalised in the Benimar 1 area during the same night. The police were informed. Once again, please park off the road if you can.

8 Nov 2011

A Dutch couple were locally robbed. They went for a drink on Saturday a week ago to the Pub next to the Banjaca bank in Quesada. They left because a man was staring at them whilst on a mobile 'phone. Returning home to Atalaya 14 they took the wrong turn up the "double by-pass" and ended at the "dead-end" unable to cross over to our side of the road. Some men were behind them in a white car and got out and made a fuss in Spanish, whilst this was happening another man stole a *handbag from the Dutch people containing money and passports. * Do be careful with handbags not to leave them unattended even for a minute.

Robbery in Dona Pepa:
Two ladies went for a walk up to Gama on Ave Antonio Quesada in Dona Pepa. A car pulled in to curb 2 men, 2 women inside. Man asked friend where the motorway was for Valencia; she was separated from the other lady.  A girl got out of the car and said to one of the ladies that her mother was ill and needed to get to Valencia. She lent into the lady and put her arms around her neck changing the lady's sovereign necklace for another heavy one.  It was when the other girl in the car shouted out ´come ¨that the lady was pushed and then   felt the cold chain on her neck. She realized what had happened and banged on car window. They did not get number of the black car with dark windows. It was all reported to Guardia- they were very good . The coin is a dated 1887 gold sovereign. It has the face of the young Queen Victoria on the it. The attackers were in there 20 to 30s and well dressed. The girl out of the car had dark long hair  and the man dark hair greased back. Both nice looking; a very clean car.

2 Nov 2011

2nd of november a resident of the Calle Piedra del Luna, Benimar 2/Rojales Hills, left around 16.45 her house for an appointment. The lights in this street have been out for several days so all the street and the houses are very dark! Around 07.30 p.m. the alarm sounded. The alarm was not connected to a control unit. Neighbours, in the possession of the key of the house, reacted and saw that the kitchen window 80 x 80 m was cracked with a crowbar. There are no rejas in this house. Everything in the house looked like nothing happened. The burglars used a gas bottle to reach the kitchen window.
When the resident came home it appeared that only the laptop with its bag was stolen. The alarm is only working when someone is in the living room so possibly nothing happened in the kitchen but when he of they came
into the living room the alarm started to sound and maybe they took the laptop and run away. Nothing else is missing!  The police has been alerted!

17 Oct 2011

Friday 14th October there was a bag fished out of a window of a house on Calle Ciudad Real, bottom of Donal Pepa 2 Res Isamar Park. The shutter was not down and during the night someone pinged opened the sliding window and fished out a handbag. Handbag later found on scrub land valuable items missing but specs still there.
Lesson to be learnt here is not to leave anything of value near open windows. Put items in a drawer or wardrobe or in a room without open windows.
Car  parked outside Res Amaro on Calle Ciudad Real Dona Pepa 2 (next toIsamar Park), was vandalised damage to back window and trim. Owner believes this was an attemped car break-in. Consider a car alarm and also putting your car on the drive or garage.

12 Sep 2011

Fires in Parque Natural - Guardamar, Rojales, Los Montesinos, Torrevieja & surrounding areas
Local security services including both Policia Local and especially Guardia Civil, are maintaining vigilance in the area. NHW may be able to help them.
SHOULD ANYONE SEE ANYTHING WHICH COULD BE CONSIDERED VAGUELY SUSPICIOUS, they should phone 112 in order to report their suspicions with a view to putting a stop to these constant attacks.

2 Sep 2011

Many incidents recently of cars being broken into while owners are on the beach. Please do not leave handbags with valuables locked in the car, even in the boot. It is suspected that thieves watch people locking their bags in the car then strike when the owners go to the beach. If you have to take your bag to the beach never let it out of your sight. Best advice is to take as little as possible when visiting the beach.

"Holiday home broken into last night at 9.30 on Fase V11 Rojales Hills. NO ALARM FITTED got in through kitchen window and stole credit cards and because spare keys were left in house they took the hire car as well. Police informed. If they´d had an alarm the neighbours who were in and saw the car drive away could have averted the crime.
YOU ARE AT GREATER RISK OF BURGLARY WITHOUT A QUALITY ALARM FITTED TO YOUR HOUSE."

There appears to be an increase in handbag snatches/muggings particularly at the top of Calle Azul in North Quesada. Only carry essentials in your handbag if you are out, i.e. just enough money for your needs, leave passport, credit cards etc at home. If assaulted don`t resist to prevent possible injury & call the police immediately with full description of assailant/s. Be particularly careful if you are leaving a bar or restaurant when you will probably be in a relaxed state and less aware of other people around you.

20 June 2011
At 0200 Sunday morning June 19th on Avda. Rio Tajo Rojales Hills a resident heard his cat alarm go off and stop suddenly. On investigation he found his exterior alarm had been taken off the wall and thrown into the pool. The prowler was heard to make his escape, within 3 minutes off calling them 4 Policia local officers in 2 cars were in attendance. Please make sure that your exterior alarm cannot be reached easily, if not possible get a metal "cage" fitted over it.

"There are a number of people out of work receiving no state aid & unfortunately we are receiving reports of pickpockets operating in the general area of Torrevieja & surrounding districts. An example of this is an incident outside Aldi near Las Habeneras shopping centre. Two men approached victim from opposite direction carrying a bag. When they passed the victim the bag burst spilling pebbles onto the pavement. They asked victim to help them pick them up which he did. When they has departed he realised his wallet had been stolen.
Do NOT carry wallets, handbags or purses where they can be easily removed. i.e back pocket."
